My
design is an integral bench with a bike rack at the back of it which bicycles
may be free standing. This furniture is designed with geometric patterns for
the shape, and ergonomics for its scale.
According to the brief, I
selected Bicentennial Park as the location. Bicentennial Park is a diverse
natural asset combining the Badu Mangroves wetlands on Homebush Bay with 40
hectares of beautiful parklands featuring gentle hills, lakeside meadows and
soothing green vistas. The reason why I choose it is the Bicentennial Park has
a long shared pathway near Rhodes and connects to Olympic Park. Many people
both from Rhodes, Concord West and other around places spend their time by
riding bicycles along it. Therefore, I base on this location design this bench
with bicycle stand. This new street furniture is a good way to encourage the
community when people sit down and have a rest after riding bike.
My design is constructed from
two different materials. Durability, weather resistance, appearance, and
functionality are extremely important variables of the material of the bench
and the bike rack. Therefore, the main material of my design is stainless
steel. This kind of material has good resistance to corrosion and staining and
low maintenance, so it is good for making outdoor furniture. In addition, the
surfaces of the seat and the back are laid on strips of hardwood timbers. Also
the color of my design is kept with its materials’ original color. The installation
of this bench is screwed to the ground and this may increase the strength of
the bike stand.
