Project One: Accessible Package - Research/ Concepts

Many consumers become frustrated because the hard-to-open product packaging
Especially for who has arthritis.
There are 6.4 millions or nearly 1 in 3 Australians are living with arthritis or disability.
People with arthritis have trouble grasping, twisting, turning small items or exerting any force with their hands. Doing those tasks can be extremely painful or impossible.
That is why we have ease of use product on market.
Any product that has user-friendly design or packaging may qualify for the ease of use trademark.

What makes a product easy to use?

Clear labelling

Making openability easier

Enhanced control

Improving grips through texture

This is a juice bottle packaging concept. Here I design two juice bottles are joint together by screwing the lid into another bottle bottom. Users may put hands in to the hole, one hand exert force forward, another backward, bottom bottle will be opened easier by opposite force. After finish juice inside, users may put the bottle onto another one to help to open. Another feature is it's triangle shape is in a good way to grip/hold its edge. The main idea design this is making openability easier and enhance control.
Before presenting, Xiaomeng Shi gave me comment about how two bottle joint. She suggested me using gear pattern on lid instead screw. Because once joint two bottle by screwing together, how to prevent while opening the bottom bottle lid two bottle will be separate by same twisting direction.
During presentation, Mar as my tutor gave me comment about the hole. He suggested me not using this instead of design gap on the edge to grip. Because people who has arthritis is hard to put hands into holes. Adrain based on this comment he suggested can have shape of the gap, for example can fit fingers.
This is the concept I will go on for project one.
