After watching David Kelly’s TED talk video, I’ve learnt a lot from it. For these days, design is not only about creation and innovation, but also much more focus on human centred. Human-centeredness in an approach to design, that really involves designing behaviors and personality into products.
In this video, David shows many examples of human centred design in many different environments. For example, the PRADA store in New York tried to used human centred design, such as scanners. Consumers can use scanner during shopping there and press the button scan the clothes or other products then they would be seen on the screen in different colors, runway videos and poster pictures. Also the fitting room which has a magic mirrors can show how consumers look from behind after 3 second, and the color-changing door. The above designs are all about human-centeredness.
Design is full of our life, and it lives quietly. But we all feel it touch it and learn from it. Such as another example in the video, the Greenwich Watercycle Pavilion. This is a display design. And designers used soundproof material to keep quiet outside although is really noisy inside. This is for people to know how recycling water in the quiet and peaceful environment. From this promotes design, I know that human centred could be reflected in some details.
As David says “ Human-centeredness really involves designing behaviors and personality into products”, that the redesigned office cubical was an good and successful project. Because designers experienced the office life and they absolutely know what office people expect to want, that should be an enjoyable and relaxing space. The orange lights, fish tank, auto-sensing flowers these are all the human centred design and helps office workers relax.
